The Golden Rule

This is a paper-folding activity and can be used as a Children’s Message.

You make a heart with a ruler going through it.  Directions for folding it are given below.

In this children’s message we are talking about the Golden Rule.  It is one of the things Jesus taught. It can be stated:

  • Love one another.  (Leviticus 19:18; John 13:34; 1 Peter 4:8)
  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
  • Treat others as you would like others to treat you.

Discuss some examples of how you could do something nice for other people.  Should your just be nice to your family and friends? No, Jesus said to be kind to everyone.

Today I have a heart to give you. It has a ruler going through it. This is a reminder that we are to love everyone with our heart. The Golden Rule

End with a prayer.

Directions for Folding

Use a square piece of paper. If it is red on one side then the heart will be red. Use crayons, markers, or get pens, if you want, to color it red.

Use the steps shown. If you omit step 7, then the ends are not pointed.  Instead of wings, you get a ruler.

Then you can use a pencil to put the ruler marks on the rule.

The original idea came from a tweet by Mark Kaerher.
