Joy and Obedience

I want to obedient. Joy in Christ goes hand-in-hand with obedience.

enjoyment ⇒ obedience and obedience ⇒ enjoyment

In fact, enjoyment in Jesus is first and initial. (Putting obedience as the first step would make it a works righteousness.)

The implications (cause and effect) go in both directions.

And by contrapositive, not of one will cause not of the other.

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind [and strength]. This is the great and first commandment.” (Matt. 22:37–38)

God is to be the center of our joy.

We are to love God with all our faculties and capacities. We can treasure other things, but we may only treasure them as expressions of treasuring God.

Ps 43:4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
